Virginia ain't even close to the Mid-west, as evidenced by the time it took me to get back from Madison Tuesday. I'm part of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference. I went to the January meeting, saw some people I've met at SAA and my buddies from William and Mary. Unfortunately, I'm not going to the May meeting in Chautauqua NY.
While I was in Madison I stopped at WHS, saw Jennifer, who just got a nice project gig (benefits!). Later went to Pasqual's on Monroe and hung with Debi, Ciaran, Kris and her lovely wife Jess, Dennis, and Doug. Unfortunately didn't hit Michael's. Lovely but hectic visit.
Now I'm back home (?) in Virginia dealing with the hectic end of the semester rush. Turns out the end of a semester is stressful even if you are not a grad student. Go figure.
Hi Alexis -
Great to get to talk with you at Midwest Archives Conference!
Do let us be talking/thinking/brainstorming for future sessions at SAA/MAC/other conferences on lone arranger issues and/or how-to-do-as-much-as-possible-with-no-budget...
gardening, cooking, reading, organizing, and remodeling.
What are your favorite books?
I just finished reading "the metaphysical club," "black, white, jewish," and "eat, pray, love." All good in their own right, but I really prefer the articles in Smithsonian and Vanity Fair.

You won't find me there, but I am sporadic twitterer (archavenger), and flickrer (a_archivist).
Tell us more about you, if you are so inclined
I was hired in 2007 to re-establish the archives program at the Museum, a job I was not anticipating when I applied but happy to have the opportunity. Despite the downturn in the Michigan economy, I still have a job and a very small support staff. We rely heavily on volunteers and graduate students from Wayne State.
With everyone's help we launched our website and image database in May 2009. It still needs a lot of work, but we are getting there.
