There seems to be a preponderance of Jane Austen fans. It seems worthy of a group.

I'm always busy, but I like it that way. My latest work-related passion is teaching. I've a program at the Congregational Library and I've been teaching at Simmons for GSLIS Continuing Ed since Nov. 2007.
In general, my goals as an archivist are to make material as accesible as possible, helping people make connections and as always making order out of chaos.
My non work obsession at the moment is finding steam punk sorts of things. It is a very new obsession so I haven't gotten very far.

Happy belated birthday, Lone Arrangers!

Well, my mother, of all people pointed out that we now have 160 members, which is really quite amazing and excellent!

It's also been about a year and a month since I established this forum to help archivists- librarians- and those who do similar work, or just really like us, maintain contact in our isolated working environments. I fear I've been more absent-minded than not the last many months, and I'm going to try to correct that.… Continue

Boston-based meet up group establishing

I've just created a Google Group that goes beyond the scope of Lone Arrangers for the Boston-area.

This group is the latest version of "Boston Archivist Group," aka BAG- that existed a few years ago and was so folks could get together in between NEA meetings. Christina Zamon, Paige Roberts, and I were talking about how nice it would be to see the other archivists who are so close, yet we rarely see each other. End the isolation! Let's have lunch on the Common.

Some ideas we were batting around… Continue

Boston Colleague about to be out of a job

My colleague, Bridgette Woodall just told me that her job at the Boston Archdiocese is being eliminated at the end of the summer. If anyone in the Boston area knows of any leads, please send her a note. Thanks. She's at: Bridgette_Woodall@rcab.org

New England Archivist Meeting

I'm happy to report that the meeting in Newport, Rhode Island was quite good. Many Ning bookmarks were handed out so hopefully we'll see some more folks from New England signing up here pretty soon.

I encourage any who've already signed up but not joined the NE Group to do so. That goes for the Boston area group as well. Related to the Boston group, there was further discussion over the weekend about the long defunct Boston Archivist Group- aka BAG. This was beyond just lone arrangers, mind you… Continue

More Meta Stuff

Hi!
Today I added sub-sections to our already established forum conversations. I hope my choices are accurate enough for the original poster's liking. I just wanted to sort that out, as - like probalby most of you- I like things in categories. It makes it easier to find stuff later!

Also, for those earlier subscribers, I added more profile questions. They're all voluntary, but I welcome anyone to edit their sections so we can get to know each other better.

Regarding use of tags: I highly recom… Continue

Jessica I love the website !!!
Thanks for sharing your archives with us through photos.
I am a novice and am learning so much from the conversations already. I hope i can glean from each of you.
My school is over 150 years old. I have a small ammount of items and have been having a great time just looking through most of it! I have been given the bace cd's from the Ms State Archives. It has taught me so much about having an archive how to take care of your items, preservation and conservation and much more.
I have had a hard time finding archivist on the Gulf Coast. I have been looking for a group to meet with. Unfortunatly i havent found one yet. Until i saw your website.
Thanks

Jessica, perhaps you may have read into my thoughts on Matthew MacFayden! That's a secret crush. I do love Jane Austen, I have not read everything but between work and school I do try to get in as many reads as possible.

Thanks for the note. I'm working for a small tribal archives in the middle of the Owens Valley, CA. The library here is very small and I don't have many resources available to me, the least of which is money. I may need everyone's help. Thanks again.
